Feeding a well-balanced, nutritionally complete diet that is suitable for your dog’s age and size contributes to supporting good health for your pet.

But why not spoil your dog occasionally with a delicious treat?! Remember to watch those waistlines though! Offer treats in moderation and ensure that fresh drinking water is always available for your dog.

Try this recipe for a homemade treat you can share with your pet. We made 21 of the larger biscuits and 27 of the smaller. You can adapt the quantity of ingredients to produce less biscuits, for example by halving the ingredients.

2 eggs

2 bananas

250g peanut butter **make sure it does not contain Xylitol, an artificial sweetener that is toxic to dogs**

300g plain or wholemeal flour

100g rolled oats

1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (170°C fan or 350°F).

2. Line two baking trays with baking paper; you may need more or less trays, depending on the size of cutter you are using.

3. Mash the bananas with a fork. Whisk the eggs and add the peanut butter and mashed banana, whisk until well combined.

4. In a separate bowl, mix the flour with the oats then add to the wet ingredients.

5. Work the mixture to bring it together, start by using a wooden spoon and then your hands, until it forms a dough.

6. Dust your work surface with flour and, using a rolling pin, roll out your dough to a thickness of approximately 1cm.

7. Use a cookie cutter to cut out shapes from the dough and then place the dough shapes on the lined baking trays, leaving enough room to allow them to rise a little.

8. Bake in the oven for approximately 15-20 mins, or until golden brown. This will depend on the size of cookie cutter you use as smaller dough shapes will bake quicker. We used cutters measuring 77 x 46mm and 40 x 25mm.

9. Remove from the oven and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before giving to your dog.
